a dance performance that explores the intimacy of home AND FAMILIAL HISTORY. It has become an offering of gratitude FOR MY UPBRINGING in Central Appalachia, and an opportunity to explore my likeness with my great-grandmother sarah.
Central Appalachia contains an essence, a unique awareness of self, as land and memory are deeply connected to identity. The choreography of PLOW embraces the concept of place as a pause in movement; it restructures common mis-representations of ‘home’, the value of proximity, land, the customs, the people, and the assumptions, examining our understanding of culture and place.
