Projects

Work approaches movement collaboratively with a process rooted in ideas navigating memory and connection to place.

Work roles: choreographer, director, producer.

Teaching

As a teacher my objective is to create a space for creative expression + critical thinking through movement practices. Class + choreography explore contemporary dance forms while staying current with a practice of personal investigation and a willingness to experiment.

Class

The work is technical and expressive, but keeps the focus on the students’ progress and experiences, helping them develop a healthy practice of self-exploration and confidence in the classroom.

Currently teaching open intermediate/advanced adult contemporary and jazz classes at Open Door Studios.

Curate | Produce

I curate and produce art events and performance opportunities for artists to collaborate and present their work. Experience including opportunities at Goodyear Arts, Boom CLT, and the interdisciplinary performance festival, ladyfestCLT.

ladyfestCLT is an award-winning, interdisciplinary performance festival featuring the works of female and femme-identifying artists in Charlotte and beyond.

ladyfestCLT brings artists together with the goal of strengthening the community by providing the opportunity to share work and performance space. ladyfestCLT showcases live performance and dance films, broadening audience experience of contemporary performance by creating dialogue about work that is being made through the female lens.

CURRENT WORK

PLOW is a dance performance that explores the intimacy of home. Presented as a re-imagination of my upbringing in Central Appalachia, PLOW explores the connections between memory and our senses that hold permanence.

Central Appalachia contains an essence, a unique awareness of self, as land and memory are deeply connected to identity. The choreography of PLOW embraces the concept of place as a pause in movement; it restructures common mis-representations of ‘home’, the value of proximity, the land, the customs, and the assumptions, examining our understanding of culture and place.
